Jan Mugerwa
Following stints with a number of leading city law firms, in 2002 Jan went on to set up Olephant Solicitors. He oversees the team and has over 25 years experience practising law, with extensive experience acting on commercial litigation matters in the Higher Courts in England and internationally. He also has an impressive track record of working on high value and complex litigation, particularly in shareholder disputes and fraud claims.
Jan is also a qualified life coach. This is more than a skill. It is a way of being that pays great dividends in building and maintaining the client/lawyer relationship in negotiations and in managing the teams that are often required in complex litigation. In fact, he has found this skill of particular value in the client/counsel relationship. As Chambers UK 2013 states, “He has the ability to see the issue from several angles” and “acts on a range of high-calibre commercial and employment disputes.”
In his spare time, Jan loves to renovate old buildings, including a 16th Century Merchant’s House in the ancient city of Fez, Morocco and a colonial era house in Kampala, Uganda. He also runs a blog commenting on the obstacles to justice and the rule of law in Uganda: Uganda Blog
